Local Elections May 2023
The Labour Party believes that the people of the RBWM should have public services to be proud of and town centres which are welcoming and vibrant.
In voting for Labour councillors on May 4th you will be voting for enthusiastic and hard-working local people who will want to make a difference. We are committed to supporting those most vulnerable in our area, and like most people of the town, are frustrated by the declining provision for young people, those struggling to find affordable homes and the elderly. This decline over 16 years by a Conservative-led council needs to be reversed and only by voting Labour are you sure that will happen.

Georgina volunteers for the local foodbank and her other interests include netball, travelling and spending time with her family and friends. Bisham & CookhamMEL STACK

As a lifelong Labour voter, she is committed to help our community by advocating for better access to services and support for those who are penalised by circumstances, unable to get the necessary access to education, healthcare, affordable housing and employment opportunities, despite the relative wealth of our borough. Cox GreenBOB HORNER
Bob has lived in the Borough since 1987 and is now retired. A former Parish Councillor he was, for ten years, Chair of Governors of a local school. He was a respite carer for people with learning difficulties for some years. His interests outside of politics include the railways, sports and walking his Springer Spaniel dog around Cox Green. Cox GreenJOHN LUPTON
John has lived in Maidenhead for over 20 years and as a retired secondary school teacher is passionate about ensuring our schools support and develop all our young people regardless of their academic abilities. As a Deputy Headteacher in Cox Green, he was fully aware of the issues of anti-social behaviour, transport and bus services, and the need for community services to be maintained and improved. He hopes if elected to be a local voice for those who feel left out, the elderly, young people and the vulnerable. He volunteers for a charity which supports elderly people to insulate their homes, helping to keep their bills down, as well as reducing carbon emissions. As a biologist, he is acutely aware of the environmental stress new housing brings, and would ensure scrutiny of any proposed new developments, to ensure maintaining biodiversity and environmental considerations are paramount. Furze PlattGEORGE BLAIR
George was born, educated and grew up in the area. He is attending university studying criminology with environmental justice and has an avid interest in politics and working to improve people’s lives. Tim has lived in Maidenhead all his life, and it is very close to his heart. A pupil at St Luke's primary school, then on to Desborough Collage where he gained an interest in local issues and history having spent some time volunteering at the local Heritage Centre while at school. He has worked in and around the area and now as an auction cataloguer. He wishes to stand as he believes it is time for change and new perspective. He would like to support our local town and crucially our housing issues, as lots of people are finding it near impossible to live here and feel forced out of the area for lack of affordable housing. And to support families not only amidst this cost of living crisis but always. Hurley & WalthamsSALLY LUPTON
Sally has lived in the Borough for more than twenty years. She recently retired after working as a teacher of languages in a local secondary school. She has served the community as a nursery school governor and now volunteers as an administrator for a local charity which supports people in insulating their homes. OldfieldLOUISE FAIRLIE
Louise lives in Maidenhead with her six year old son, and works as a sales manager in electronics. She is standing for election as she feels the current council needs to change, as there has been a catalogue of mismanagement which has been detrimental to our town. Pinkneys GreenJANE COLLISSON
Jane has lived in the Borough for more than 30 years. Now retired, she qualified as a social worker and worked both in social care management and inspection of care homes and domiciliary care with both older people and people with learning disabilities. She is keen to work to improve the quality of life for people who need support and to ensure that services provided to all vulnerable groups are monitored regularly to provide better quality care. Pinkneys GreenJOE FREEMAN
Joe is Maidenhead born and bred, lives in Pinkneys Green and works as a Teaching Assistant in a Local Primary School. He feels an obligation to fight against voter apathy and the Council's complacency. He is standing for the Council who have demonstrated a clear lack of vision for the future, and feels with youthful energy that he can provide an alternative viewpoint to the current ineffective policies that result in overspending and mismanagement. He will strive for an increase in social and affordable housing, as it is apparent to him he is unable to move out of his family home into accommodation in Maidenhead. Additionally after long conversations with individuals in his own family, elderly members of our community need to have access to essential services for example doctor appointments without the use of a computer or smartphone. RiversideNIGEL SMITH
A resident for over 30 years, he has watched the gradual decline of the town. A retired Chartered Surveyor, working in telecoms for over twenty years. Previously a London Borough Councillor where, for 4 years, he was Chair of Development Control. He believes that the Borough Plan needs to be reviewed to prevent current over development of our residential areas and our High Street needs revitalising to bring back shoppers. A plan is needed to implement better public transport, pedestrian and cycling routes to give people the opportunity not to use their cars. A review of the flood preventions schemes is needed to protect the low lying areas of the Borough. The list of actions that need to be taken is almost endless but the residents of the Borough need urgent action to reverse 16 years of decline that have led to the failures. Outside interests include bowls and rugby. St Mary'sKEITH NICHOLAS
Keith has lived in Maidenhead for over 45 years, the last 30 years living in St Mary's ward. He has two children, who both attended local schools. He has been working in engineering locally for the past 40 years and canvassed to Remain in the EU. |
